The Crawl Crocodile Tunnel (Crawl) is a good example of a simple story that is very well told. A bloody adventure full of twists and turns of fortunes, wittyness, "bloodthirsty bad guys" and surprising gentleness - All portrayed in a sensational 86 minutes of thrilling moments the heart begins to happen.
Crawl is a perfect thriller, a summer blockbuster rather, a warning about the catastrophic weather, unpredictable change of Mother Nature and the emotions hidden in the father-son relationship.
The script (written by Michael & Shawn Rasmussen) seems to be inspired by two sources - the 2010 Burning Bright film about two siblings trapped in a house with a tiger in the storm.
Those images pour onto social media after each storm intended to swim the streets of flooded cities and towns. The story is built quite simply, retains the same story line, with the action scenes after introducing brief but effective characters.
The battle for survival of the father and son with two "enemies" comes from nature is a fierce storm of level 5, besides having to try to escape from the hunt of aggressive crocodiles. There were no signs of help or rescue from outside, even the police who came to rescue them all had to die because of this fierce opponent.
The swimming crocodiles like walking in the house of two Haley fathers, all of them are created from CG techniques, look very real. Aja sometimes makes them appear suddenly, rushing into the frame, and then gliding slowly towards the target - which makes them a permanent threat to the viewer.
As the water rose, their presence became more and more unpredictable and a number of shock shocks to the audience were greatly awaited.
